3D Scan and Print a Toy Duck
Event
Maker project advice + tinkering + 3D Object Scanning @ dlr LexIcon Hosted by Jake Byrne
Activity
- We brought along a toy duck and Dobby per the invite
- Jake setup the HP Sprout to 3D scan the duck - rotating it so all the surface was captured
- Reduce the size of the final model so it prints quicker
- Save the STL (STereoLithography) file to SD card
- Insert SD card into 3D Printer (Ultimaker 2)
- Print...
- Watch and wait for 30 minutes as the duck takes shape layer by layer
The End Result
From left to right:
- Dobby who could not be scanned. Due to some Harry Potter magic or because the scanner filters out human skin colours.
- The original duck in green that was scanned
- The smaller duck in pink that was printed. We'll give it some colour and features by painting it.
